How to Tie a Mono to a Braid

Fishing enthusiasts have many choices when deciding which type of fishing line best suits their needs. Monofilament, or mono fishing line, is fishing line made of a single strand. Braided line is made of several strands braided together. Tying the two types of line together can be tricky due to the difference in strand thickness. By tying a leader knot, a mono can be firmly tied to a braid to create one long strand.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the mono line on a flat surface with the end pointed to the right. Lay the braided line next to the mono line, with the end pointed to the left. Leave about 5 inches of each line lying flat, and pull the mono line down across the braided line.

    • 2

Make three loose loops around both lines using the end of the mono line. Pull the end of the line through the loops, and pull firmly to tighten the knot.

    • 3

Make three more loose loops around both lines, this time using the end of the braided line. Pull the end through the loops, and again pull to tighten.

    • 4

Wet both knots with your saliva, and pull each end to bring the knots together. When both knots are firmly side by side, pull to tighten and clip the ends with scissors.
