How to Tie a Super Yo-Yo

Super yo-yo strings should be replaced when they begin to look frayed and lose elasticity. Yo-yo strings are a snap to change and can allow your yo-yo to operate at its full potential. Yo-yo strings come in a variety of materials, including classic cotton, nylon, rayon, polyester or a combination of these materials. Experiment with different types of yo-yo strings to find the medium that best matches your style of trickery and yo-yo play.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold your yo-yo string in front of you so that it reaches from just above your belly button down to the floor. Grasp the string approximately 3 inches above your belly button. Fold the string over and tie a loop in the string at your belly button. Trim off any excess string above the loop.

    • 2

Pull the yo-yo string hanging down to the floor up and through the loop, creating a slipknot. The slipknot will be used to secure the yo-yo to your finger. Slide the middle finger of your dominant hand into the slipknot and pull the string until the knot fits snugly around your finger.

    • 3

Split the yo-yo string at the opposite end, opening a small loop in the string. Yo-yo strings are made of two strings wound together, and your yo-yo will sit between the two strings. Slide the yo-yo inside the loop so that the string is looped around the axle of the yo-yo.

    • 4

Experiment with the string double-looped around the axle to find the best tying mechanism for your yo-yo style. Pull the loop around the yo-yo axle up to make it larger and slip it around the yo-yo axle a second time. Two or more loops tend to give the yo-yo a more positive response.
