Preparing the Trick
Tear a playing card in half width-wise.
Fold the remaining piece of the card in half, then fold it again, creating four separate sections. Place the quarter inside the fold.
Grab the coin through the card using both pairs of pliers, then slightly bend it. The top third of the coin should be bent slightly.
Performing the Trick
Memorize the state on the quarter. Make sure you're wearing a long sleeve shirt or jacket. Put the bent coin in your left sleeve and put a black permanent marker in your right pants pocket.
Ask people for some change, looking for a state quarter. Once you find a quarter, claim that it is the same state as the quarter you have up your sleeve.
Act as if you're dropping the coin into your left hand, but keep it in your right. Open the fingers in your left hand slightly, and extend your arm out so the coin in your sleeve falls into your left hand secretly.
Reach into your right pocket with your right hand, pulling the marker out and leaving the volunteer's state quarter in your pocket. Ask them to sign "their" quarter using the marker. Secretly adjust the coin in your left hand so that you're holding it between your thumb and your pointer finger, with the bend on top and pointing towards you.
Tell them you will hold the coin as they sign it. Readjust the coin so that the bend is on the bottom and facing out. To create the illusion of it bending, hold the coin at face level and slowly slide your thumb up slowly. Once the bend is in full view, hand the person the signed and bent coin.
