Paper
You can construct an oragami plane with a sheet of standard A4 paper or writing paper of similar proportions. It is best if you start with a piece of paper that is not creased so that you will be able to fly the finished plane with as little resistance as possible.
Construct the Basic Shape
Fold the paper in half lengthwise. Fold one corner in and diagonally downward until it meets the first fold. Repeat this process on the other side. Starting from the tip of the point fold the paper down so that the inside edges are even with the centerline crease. Repeat this process on the other side. Turn the paper over and fold it in half along the centerline. Fold both wings down outward until they are level with the centerline. The paper should now be in the shape of a jet plane when gripped from the first fold.
Add Extras
Cut two small lines into the rear of each wing about 1 inch apart so that the paper in between them can be folded up or down to make flaps for the plane. Do the same on the rear of the plane to create a rudder.
Test Your Basic Plane
Throw your plane to see how far you can make it fly. Adjust the flaps and rudder to see if you can achieve a greater distance or control the direction better. You can also play with the dimensions of the plane when folding to see if you can make a design that can fly further.
