How to Cut a 2X2 on an Angle

An angle cut in any piece of wood, such as a 2-by-2 board, is called a miter cut. To make a miter cut in a 2-by-2 board you will need to use the proper type of saw. A common type of saw that you will use to make this type of cut is called a compound miter saw. Compound miter saws allow you to adjust the direction and angle of the blade.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the miter gauge against the corner where you want to install the 2-by-2 boards. The legs will rest on the work angle. Observe the reading on the miter gauge, such as 45 degrees.

    • 2

Set the miter saw to the reading on the miter gauge. If you need a 45 degree cut, adjust the blade 45 degrees to the left.

    • 3

Cut one side of the miter joint by pressing the trigger and then pulling down the saw blade. Set the saw 45 degrees to the right and cut the other side of the miter joint.

    • 4

Place the miter gauge against an inside corner. Observe the reading on the gauge, such as 40 degrees.

    • 5

Set the angle of the miter saw to a 40 degree left-side cut. Cut the miter joint into the 2-by-2 board. Set the angle of the saw to a 40 degree right-side cut. Cut the other side of the miter joint.
