Zoom Lenses
Zoom lenses have improved in quality from when they were first introduced. Zoom lenses allow you to get closer to the subject without physically having to move closer. This can be a huge benefit when shooting event photography if you cannot get close enough to the subject or will be restricted in where you can move at the event.
Two Cameras
Using two cameras, one with a wide angle zoom and one with a telephoto zoom, will give you focal lengths you will need at the event and will minimize the need of having to change lenses. Having a second camera will also serve as a backup just in case one camera stops working.
Semi-Auto Exposure Mode
Set the camera to ̶0;Shutter Priority̶1; exposure mode. In this mode you control the shutter speed for the camera and the camera will select the correct aperture for the scene. Using this program will ensure that the exposure is always correct and it is a good approach to use under changing light conditions.
Position
Stay in front of the action all the time. If you are covering a specific person, you will want to be in front of that person as much as possible. This means you will be walking backwards a lot. In most cases at media events, there will be handlers who can help you to make sure you don̵7;t fall or trip over anything. Keep your camera to your eye and be ready to shoot whenever you see anything that should be photographed.
