How to Make Large Numbers or Letters for Photography Props

Studio photographers use many different items in their photography. While many people automatically think of stools, benches, tables or stands as props that may appear in a photographer̵7;s studio, they may also need to create props for a shoot from time to time. Large numbers and letters are props that can be used when photographing children or if you need to illustrate any subject where individual letters or numbers may be associated.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain large pieces or blocks of Styrofoam. You may have some laying around your house or you may have to purchase the Styrofoam from a craft supply store.

    • 2

Trace the letter or number onto the Styrofoam. Depending on the size of letters and numbers you want to create, try to get as many individual letters and numbers out of each sheet.

    • 3

Cut the numbers and letters out of the Styrofoam using small hacksaw or jigsaw. Carefully remove the letters and numbers after they have been cut.

    • 4

Spray paint the letters and numbers in the colors you want to use in your studio. Glue a square of poster or Bristol board to the bottom of each letter or number to act as a stand for the cut-out.
