Things You'll Need
Instructions
Find a sturdy box, such as one from a computer or a monitor, that measures approximately 20 inches on all sides.
Measure and mark the box to cut. Using a ruler, measure 2 inches from the edge of three sides of the box and the top to make a border. Leave the bottom of the box intact.
Cut the sides. Cut out one side completely; this will be the front of the box. Cut out the three sides and top with the border. You will now have a box with a solid bottom, an open front, and three open sides and top with a 2-inch-thick border around each.
Spray-paint the box, inside and out, with white paint to ensure an even application and to cover any writing and markings on the box. Allow the paint to dry to the touch.
Measure white muslin fabric to fit inside the four cut-out sections of the box. Cut the fabric pieces 1 1/2 inches larger than the hole to allow room to secure it.
Glue the fabric to the box. Use a slow-drying glue stick, which will allow repositioning of the fabric if necessary. Put the glue around the edge of the fabric and glue it to the inside of the four cut-out sides. Allow it to dry.
Cut the Bristol board to fit inside the box. Measure the width of the box and length from the opening to the top of the back of the box. Allow a few inches overlap. Insert the board into the box, covering the back. Bow the board so it is has a curve in it where the back and bottom of the box meet. Be careful not to crease the board.
Position the light. Use full-spectrum light bulbs or daylight bulbs that will cast a white light, and place the lamp so it shines down into the box from above. A desk lamp or clip-on light will work.
Set the jewelry you want to photograph inside the box. Place the camera and flash on a tripod and aim it into the box to shoot.
