How to Develop Film That Has Been Pushed

Push processing film is a way to make up for underexposure in film while taking photographs by overexposing the film during the development process. It̵7;s useful if you set your film speed to the wrong value or if you took pictures at a higher film speed than the ISO of the film in your camera, also called pushing the film. In order to correct the underexposure of the pushed film, you can push process the film.

Instructions

    • 1

Go into a dark room and remove the lid of the film with the bottle opener.

    • 2

Roll the film into the film roll and place it in the film tank. Place the lid on the tank and leave the dark room.

    • 3

Pour the proper amount of developer into the top of the film tank for that size of tank and place a lid on the spout. Agitate the film tank about once a minute. Increase the development time of the film by two minutes for every camera stop of underexposure.

    • 4

Open the film tank spout lid and pour out the developer. Place the spout under running water for one minute and empty out the water.

    • 5

Pour fix into the film spout and let it sit for five to 10 minutes. Agitate the film tank while the fix is in the tank. Empty the film tank into an approved fix canister and rinse the film for five minutes.

    • 6

Remove the film from the tank and hang it out to dry.
