How to Make Your Own Product Photo Backdrop

A good backdrop is an essential part of successful product photo shoots. Professional backdrops, however, can be very expensive and out of budget for those photographers who are just starting out. In order to make a product stand out in a photograph, it is important that your background looks seamless. This professional look can easily be achieved at home by making your own product photo backdrop. This do-it-yourself method will also be less expensive.

Things You'll Need

Duct tape
A thick, A0-sized, sheet of paper

Instructions

  Locate a wall, chair, or anything you can lean your paper against.

  Tape the top of your piece of paper to your chosen product photo backdrop location, leaving half of the paper resting on the floor.

  Grab the bottom edge of the piece of paper and pull away from the item that it is taped to until the paper has a seamless, edge-free bend from the floor upwards. Tape the paper to the floor to hold it in place.

  Place your product on the piece of paper where it lies flat on the floor. Find an interesting angle for the photograph.

  Light the product evenly so that the shadow is not visible on the backdrop.

  Set up your camera in front of the backdrop and angle it so that you cannot see anything beyond the backdrop. Turn on your camera and start shooting.
