How to Make a Home Photo Booth

Photo booths are an item you add to a wedding reception or party that will entertain your guests and capture some fun pictures. Similar to photo booths that appear in shopping malls, your home photo booth will provide a place for the individuals to sit and a neutral background. You can also include props in your photo booth that will give your guests another way to create fun and creative pictures.

Things You'll Need

  • One to three drapery panels or fabric shower curtains
  • One to three portable clothes racks or photo backdrop stands
  • Bench
  • Tripod
  • Digital camera
  • Props including hats, umbrellas and large photo frames

Instructions

    • 1

Assemble the photography backdrop stand or the portable clothes rack per the instructions contained in the package. Before you attach the top cross bar, slide the fabric shower curtain or drapery panel on the bar to create the hanging backdrop. You can create side walls to your photo booth by using additional clothes racks. If you do not want to buy them you can inquire about renting two or three from a costume or party supply retailer.

    • 2

Position the backdrop in the location in your home where you want the photo booth to be set up for the night. Place a chair or bench approximately one foot in front of the backdrop. A bench will encourage groups of two or more to get their picture taken, which should lead to fun pictures.

    • 3

Attach the camera to a tripod and position the tripod four to six feet in front of the bench. Use a strip of duct tape and tape one of the legs to the floor to hold the tripod in place during the event. Pre-focus the camera on the middle of the bench and turn the auto focusing mode to manual focus. Once the lens is pre-focused on the bench, you will not need to adjust the focus again.

    • 4

Place a container of props just to the side of the photo booth. The props can include hats, umbrellas and large photo frames where people can look through or any other items that your guests can use.

    • 5

Include a set of instructions that explains the concept of the photo booth and that one person will have to take the picture. You can purchase a camera or a remote device that will take a series of pictures once the shutter is released if you choose to do so.

Show your guests where the photo booth is when they arrive to your house for the evening.
