How to Disassemble a Lee Filter Sample

The Lee filter sample packs are scaled-down pieces of lighting gels. While too small to use on stage production lights, the sample gel filters are the perfect size to use on camera flashes. In order to use the gel filters for reasons other than sampling, the filter pack will need to be disassembled. The pack is held together by a plastic bolt which makes disassembly an easy task; however, you should be careful not to tear the filters or create a mess by the 200 plus filters becoming un-stacked. Using a couple household tools, the filter pack can be taken apart in a matter of seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Grasp the plastic bolt that runs through the filter sample pack. One end will have a screw head and the other end will be a flat piece of plastic. Use the pliers on the flat end of the bolt.

    • 2

Insert the screwdriver into the opposite end of the plastic bolt. Push the screwdriver down slightly and rotate it to the left until the bolt is loosened. Do not try to unscrew the bolt all the way with the screwdriver, as the filter pieces will fall out and get scrambled.

    • 3

Grasp both ends of the plastic bolt with your hands and twist the bolt apart. Hold the filter pack in your hands while unscrewing the bolt so the pack does not fall apart. Pull the plastic bolt out of the stack of filters when it is unscrewed.
