How to Get a Crinkle Out of a Photo

Before you start any restoration or repair to a picture that has a crease in it, you need to determine how important or significant the picture is. If this is a one-of-a-kind family heirloom, spending the money to have it restored professionally is worth the investment. If the picture is a snapshot that you can print another copy of, then you can try removing the crease yourself to save money.

Instructions

    • 1

Mist the back of the picture using a spray bottle and warm water. Do not drench the picture to the point that it is saturated. Instead, apply enough water so the paper on the back of the picture is damp.

    • 2

Place a piece of mat board on an ironing board. Place the picture face down on the board, then place a second sheet of mat board on the back of the paper. Run an iron set on low over the back of the mat board. Do this for one to two minutes.

    • 3

Remove the mat boards with the picture in between them and lay them flat on a table. Place a large flat heavy object, like a large book, on top of the board. Leave this overnight. Remove the picture in the morning and inspect the picture to see if the crease is out.
