Enter contests. Whether they are local, national or international enter as many contests as you can afford. Select contests that match well to the type of work you do. If you win the contest or place high in the submissions, your image, name and bio will appear in the magazine running the event.
Submit your work to photography magazines. Many photography magazines have "reader submission" or "portfolio review" pages that encourage photographers to submit their work. If your images or portfolio are selected, you will be featured in the magazine.
Contact your local newspaper and let it know you have just opened a photography business in your area. Many local newspapers run profile articles on new businesses in their areas and may run a small feature on you.
Volunteer your time with a local charity. The larger the charity the better. Large charities will often bring in leaders from the community and this is a good way for you to network within your community.
Offer to donate a photo shoot package or one of your prints to a silent auction in exchange for having your name and business information printed in the organization's program.
Submit work on a freelance basis to local newspapers or magazines. If you have shot some news or sports that they may be interested in, let them know and negotiate a price for the image. When the image is published, it will have your photo byline printed just below the picture. As you do more of this your name will start to be recognized within the community.
