Things You'll Need
Instructions
Open the photograph in your choice of photo editing software. Adobe Photoshop works well for this, as does GIMP, which is available for download free of charge.
Click on the "Layers" menu and select the option to create a new layer. In most photo editing software it will be called "New Layer." When the new layer dialog box pops up, name the layer "Watermark" and set the background to "Transparent" or "None." Click "OK."
Select on the watermark layer in the "Layers" palate that will be on the right hand side of the screen. Then click on the type tool. In both Photoshop and GIMP, the type tool will be found on the "Tools" palate and is represented by a "T" icon. Click on the location where you want to type your watermark to create a text box.
Set the font style and size on the upper right-hand corner of the screen in the text editor box. Type your watermark. This is the first stage of sizing your watermark. Use a font size approximate to the size you want your watermark to be.
Open your watermark logo file if you have a premade watermark made and will not be using the text method described above. Click on "Image," then "Select All" and then click on "Copy." Move back over to the main photograph and click on the "Watermark" layer in the "Layers" palate and right click. Scroll to and click on "Paste."
Click on the "Move" in the tools palate. It is represented by a cursor icon. Click on and drag the watermark to the desired location, if needed. Fine tune the size of the watermark by hovering your cursor over the edge of the "Watermark" layer. The cursor will change to a double-ended arrow. Click and drag the arrow to resize the watermark.
