How to Create Kid's Studio Backdrops

Shooting photos in your own studio allows you to be as creative as you want to be. Additional props and backdrops in your inventory will provide you with more potential selling points for your services. Create backdrops that coordinate with childhood milestones, special occasions and holidays to keep your clients coming back throughout the year. You don't need to spend a fortune stocking your backdrop collection -- a few materials you may already have on hand are all you need.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the muslin fabric by washing, drying and ironing with starch. You'll want the fabric to be stiff when you paint it.

    • 2

Choose a scenic picture that appeals to a wide range of children. Project the image onto your fabric and trace the contours until the scene takes shape. Do not move on to the next step until you're confident that you have enough of the image on the fabric to work with.

    • 3

Use acrylic paint to fill in the details of your pencil drawing. Family members or friends may enjoy helping with project; it gives everyone a chance to exercise their creativity and show off their artistic ability.

    • 4

Finish your project by applying a coat or two of varnish with a matte finish. This coating will protect your backdrop from spots and stains, and the matte finish will help prevent unwanted glares in your photos.
