How to Digiscope With Celestron

Digiscoping can be an excellent way for photographers to get started in telephotography without spending a small fortune on telephoto lenses and other expensive camera equipment. The method allows for close-up photography by attaching a digital camera to a telescope using a special adapter. Celestron makes good quality telescopes and spotting scopes that work excellent for digiscoping.

Instructions

    • 1

Mount your Celestron telescope on a tripod. Adjust the legs of the tripod to the desired height.

    • 2

Remove the eyecup on your Celestron telescope. The rubber cup should easily slide off the eyepiece. Make sure that you don't remove it by unscrewing the hard plastic piece underneath the rubber cup because this will expose the wrong set of T-threads.

    • 3

Attach the T-ring adapter to your camera. Make sure that you purchase the correct adapter for your camera because each brand is different. Mount the T-ring adapter onto your camera by screwing it onto the front of the lens. If you're using a point-and-shoot adapter, clip the adapter to the scope's eyepiece first, then slide the camera onto the adapter's platform.

    • 4

Clamp the T-ring adapter and camera assembly to the eyepiece of your telescope. Look through the viewfinder of your camera and align it so that there's an unobstructed view all the way through the telescope. Adjust the camera up and down as needed to align. Take a test photo to assure a proper alignment. Some vignetting is normal around the edges of the photographs.
