How to Unblur a Photo When It's Zoomed In

When using your digital camera with the zoom lens extended to its maximum position, it becomes increasingly difficult to obtain sharp pictures. This has nothing to do with the camera and lens being able to focus on the subject, but rather the picture looks blurry as a result of camera shake. When the lens is extended and the field of view becomes very narrow, any camera shake --- even one caused by the shutter --- can result in a blurry photo.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the image stabilization or vibration reduction if your camera or lens is equipped with it. This program is designed to counteract any camera shake or shutter motion that may cause the image to become blurred.

    • 2

Attach the camera to a monopod or tripod. These devices are designed to connect to the base of your camera and will provide a stable shooting position when using a telephoto lens or a long shutter exposure.

    • 3

Place your camera on a table, knee wall, desk, chair or any sturdy object that will keep the camera still during the exposure.

    • 4

Attach a cable or remote release. If your camera is a single-lens reflex camera, position the mirror into the "lock up" position. These aids will reduce the amount of vibration caused when the mirror is activated or when the shutter-release button is pressed.
