The Quickest Way to Fix Blurry Pictures

Blurred images spell disaster for the perfectionist photographer. While blur can occasionally add an artistic touch or convey a sense of speed or direction, it often ruins an otherwise acceptable photograph. Motion blur occurs when photographing fast action with a slow shutter speed, resulting in colorful streaks across the image. If your entire image appears soft, the cause may be hand vibration during the exposure or focusing error. You can quickly correct most types of blur using your favorite image editing software. Of course, eliminating blur when you shoot is the best remedy.

Instructions

    • 1

Run your preferred image editing software and open the blurred image. Most software, including the programs bundled with your operating system, offer a sharpening or blur reduction tool.

    • 2

Locate and click the "Filter" tab on the software's top toolbar. Depending on which software you're using, the location of the "Filter" menu may vary.

    • 3

Highlight the "Sharpen" option in the drop-down window that appears. A second window will appear, listing several different blur reduction filters.

    • 4

Apply the filter that best suits the type of blurring in your image. For example, if your image contains soft edges as a result of focusing error, select "Sharpen Edges".

    • 5

View the results once the filter has been applied. To further reduce blur, select "Sharpen More" from the filter menu.

    • 6

Save the image once you achieve the desired effect. To preserve the original photo, use a different name for the corrected image.
