How Do I Get a Drop Shadow on a Graduated Background?

Photo editing programs allow you to build an image starting with the background. Use the "Layers" tool to add different effects to the background. Once all the effects have been applied, simply flatten the image and save it to your home computer. For the drop shadow to be visible, create a border around the picture by changing the canvas size of the image.

Turn on your computer and open your photo editing program. Click "File" in the navigation bar and select "New" from the drop-down menu. Click "Blank File" and a new dialog box will open along with a blank page. Complete the dimensions of the new file and click "OK." Click "Image" and select "Resize," then "Canvas Size." Set to the canvas size to be 1 inch larger on both the height and width. This will create a white border around the image where the drop shadow will be visible.
