How to Make Pictures Horizontal With Moving the Mouse

Digital technology has greatly changed the way photographs are taken, stored and subsequently edited. Using your home computer, a photo editing program and your computer's mouse, you can rotate an image right on the screen. After the picture has been rotated, it will save that position when the file is closed and saved to your computer's hard drive. Some digital cameras will automatically rotate pictures when needed, and some cameras require that the images be rotated manually.

  Turn your home computer on and open the photo editing program that you typically use to edit or sort your pictures. While some tasks require advance photo editing programs, this function is fairly basic and can be completed by almost all photo editing programs.

  Click "File" and select "Open" from the drop-down menu. Use your computer's cursor to navigate to the folder containing the image you want to rotate. Highlight the image and click the "OK" box in the bottom right of the window to open the image in the editor.

  Click the image after it opens in the program with your computer's mouse. A bounding box will appear around the image. Click and hold on any of the control boxes on the corners of the image. Move your computer's mouse in the direction needed to spin the image to a horizontal orientation. When the picture is fully rotated, release the computer mouse and the program will lock into place.

  Click "File" and select "Save" to resave the image with the same file name to your computer's hard drive.
