How to Make Overexposed Pictures in PSE

Photoshop Elements, or "PSE" as it is referred to by parent company Adobe, is the consumer version of Adobe Photoshop CS5. PSE offers photographers many of the exact same tools that CS5 has, but at a price that is several hundred dollars less than the professional CS5. Both programs offer photographers the opportunity to work with or make overexposed pictures. Once the picture has been overexposed in the PSE, save the image as a separate file. This retains the original file for future editing.

Instructions

Turn your home computer and open Photoshop Elements. When the program opens, click "File" in the navigation bar and use your computer's cursor to navigate to the folder containing the image you need to edit. Highlight the file and click "OK" in the bottom right of the window to open image.

Click "Enhance" in the navigation bar and select "Brightness/Contrast" from the drop-down menu. Click and hold the adjustment tab for "Brightness" and slide it until the image overexposes by the amount you require. Release the adjustment tab, and the program will automatically adjust the picture to match your adjustments. Click and hold the "Contrast" tab and slide that to increase the picture's contrast. When a picture is intentionally overexposed, the contrast reduces and needs to be increased to retain its original look.

Click "File" and select "Save as." Give your edited picture a new title and save it as a separate file from the original image. Saving it this way will retain the original image as it was shot for future editing jobs.
