How to Attach a Photography Snoot

In photography, it is crucial to have good lighting in order to get a photograph that is properly exposed. Too much light will make a subject look washed out and when there isn't enough light you can't see the subject at all. Sometimes photographers use a snoot to create a narrow stream of light. A snoot is used to create lighting effects that aren't possible with a wide stream of light from a light fixture. A snoot can help you create a dramatic portrait or stunning photos of products. A snoot is very easy to use and simply fits over top of your light fixture's lens.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the lighting fixture you plan to use to light your subject. The snoot tube is only a lighting accessory and must be used in combination with a light source.

    • 2

Push the proper sized rubber hood onto the end of your light fixture. The rubber hood allows you to change different snoot tubes depending on how narrow you want your stream of light.

    • 3

Insert the snoot tube firmly into the rubber hood---it will just sit in place. If you don't have a snoot with a rubber hood, the snoot will simply push over the top of the light fixture itself.
