When editing digital pictures, there are a number of things you can do to the image that wasn't possible with tradition film pictures, or the process would have been very difficult. One such task is removing reflections from pictures. In digital photography, it only takes a few clicks of your computer cursor.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Adobe Photoshop, GIMP or Paint.net. This task requires an advanced program. Photoshop is a program you purchase. GIMP and Paint.net are free programs that closely resemble Photoshop, right down to the type of tools they use.

    • 2

Click "File" and select "Open" from the drop-down menu. Use your computer's cursor to navigate to the folder containing the image you want to edit. Highlight the file and click "Ok" in the bottom right of the window to open the picture.

    • 3

Click the icon in the left margin of all three programs that looks like a small rubber ink stamp. This is commonly referred to as the "Clone Stamp" tool in Photoshop, and simply "Clone" tool in GIMP and Paint.net. In the toolbar of the program, you can change the size of the tool to match the area from which you need to remove the reflection. If the area is very large, you will need to use the tool a few times to remove the reflection.

    • 4

Hold the "CTRL" key and position your cursor over the part of the picture you want to sample for replacing the reflection. If there is a reflection in a pane of glass you want to remove, select a portion of the glass where the reflection does not exist as your sample. While holding the "CTRL" key, click the area you want to sample.

    • 5

Position your cursor over the area containing the reflection. Click the mouse button and you will see that the program will remove the reflection and replace it with the data you sampled. If you click and hold the mouse button, you can move the cursor and paint over the reflection with the sampled area.

Click "File" and select "Save as" from the drop-down menu. Give your edited picture a new name or title, and save it to your computer's drive.
