How to Get Glare Out of Pictures

Glare in photos can be a distracting element that minimizes the overall impact of the picture. Using a circular polarizer filter at the time you take the picture will prevent glare from appearing in your photograph. But if you didn't use the polarizer filter, you can still get the glare out of your picture by using a photo-editing program such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP or Paint.net.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your home computer on and open Adobe Photoshop or either of the free programs GIMP or Paint.net that are based on the Photoshop format. While the wording may be slightly different in the three programs, the steps and tools you need to complete the task are the same.

Click "File" in the navigation bar and use the cursor to navigate to the folder containing the image you want to correct. Highlight the file by clicking on it and click "OK" in the bottom right of the window to open the image.

    • 3

Click "Layer" in the navigation bar of the program and select "New Layer" from the drop-down menu. Select "Background copy" and click "OK" to create the layer.

    • 4

Click the "Clone Stamp Tool" located in the left margin of the computer program window. The icon for this tool looks like a small rubber ink stamp. In the tool bar across the top of the window change the size of the tool by changing its "Pixel" size.

    • 5

Press and hold the "Ctrl" key on your computer's keyboard. Position the cursor over a portion of the picture that you will sample and use to cover the glare. Click your computer cursor while holding the "Ctrl" key. The information contained in this area is now saved in the tool's memory.

Move the cursor to the area of the photograph containing the glare that you want to remove. Click the computer mouse and the program will replace the glare with the area you sampled earlier. Repeat this process until all the glare has been removed from the picture.
