How to Paint Your Picture on Paint.NET

Paint.NET is a free image editing program available for download. It has been compared to a more basic and user-friendly PhotoShop, but without the hefty price tag. In order to use it, you must have Microsoft .Net Framework installed on your computer. Paint.NET allows you to do things like crop photos, add special effects and "paint" digital images. In fact, one of the features of Paint.NET is that any photo can look like it was painted instead of photographed using a filter tool from the menus.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Paint.Net program. From the main menu, start a new project by loading onto the screen the picture you wish to paint.

    • 2

Click on the Effects menu, then on the Artistic sub-menu, and then select the Oil Painting effect. This will change the sharpness of the image to make it look like it has been created with oil paint, and textured with brush strokes.

    • 3

Click on the crop tools and cut your picture down to the desired size, unless you want to keep the original dimensions of your picture.

    • 4

From the main menu, click on Save As and choose a name for the painted version of the picture. If you do not change the name from the original, it will save the new file only, and you will lose the original image before you applied the paint effects.

    • 5

Print a copy of the picture, if desired.
