Action
Gone are the days of senior photo sessions shot only in the studio. Get outside and get moving. Have the teen move around in fun ways. If you are shooting next to a water fountain, have him stand on the edge and dip his foot in the water as you shoot. For the more adventurous teen, have her jump in and splash around. Action poses are a good way to have shy or reserved teens become more comfortable and open up for the camera.
Individual Interests
Have the senior pose with equipment or items from his favorite sport, activity or specials interests. A soccer player can dribble a ball, a ballet dancer can have her shoes thrown over her shoulders, an artist can pose on a white sheet that he painted. Incorporating bits and pieces of personal interests in the poses can help convey the student's personality.
Guys
Senior boys like for their photos to convey strength and confidence. Pose guys in a way that conveys a sense of substance and vigor. Have the boy stand with his arms crossed across his chest or with his hands in his pockets. If he is sitting, have him prop himself up with his arms. Try some shots with the boy looking away from the camera to highlight his jawline. While shooting senior guys, mind their arm position in their poses. How a subject's arm is placed can look feminine or masculine.
Girls
Senior girls mostly want to look like a fashion model in their senior pictures. Pose the girls in positions that flatter their figure. If the girl is sitting, have her place her bent legs at varying heights so her legs don't look stuck together or rigid. Shoot down on the subject's face while standing slightly above them to have her face appear slimmer. Take caution not to let the girls pose provocatively for their senior photos.
