How to Change the Proportions of a Picture

Digital technology has had a profound impact on the world of photography. It has forever changed the way we take, store and edit pictures. Digital technology has also enabled photographers to complete tasks that in previous years were either not possible or would take more time to complete than it now does. One such task is changing the proportions of a picture. What is now done with a simple two or three clicks of your computer mouse used to be a process that required more time and was done in a darkroom.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 or Elements.

Change the value in the height and width boxes in the new dialogue box that opens up. Click "File" and select "Save as" from the drop down menu. Give the edited picture a new name and save the new image to your computer's hard drive so you don't overwrite the original image.
