Things You'll Need
Instructions
Many photographers use a remote camera for sports, events and nature. Select the position carefully for your remote camera. Look for unusual angles that are higher or lower than normal perspective. Attach the remote camera to a camera brace or tripod. Angle the camera towards the subject area that will be photographed.
Consider which lens to use. Some photographers prefer a wide-angle lens. Turn the camera on, pre-focus and switch the lens to manual focus. Switching the lens to manual focus will ensure the lens does not track another subject.
Turn the exposure mode dial to the shutter priority and set the shutter speed to match the event or subject you want to photograph. If you're photographing a sports event, then you'll need a faster shutter speed.
Connect the wireless receiver to the hot-shoe on the remote camera. Turn the receiver on and set the channel to the same setting as the transmitter. Attach the trigger to a motor drive cable. Slide the wireless transmitter to the hot-shoe of the main camera. Turn the transmitter on and set the channel to match the channel on the receiver. You don't need a cable for the main camera.
Test. Each time you take a picture with the main camera, the remote camera will also take a picture. Check focus. Check to make sure your subject is properly framed. Check exposure by bracketing. Use gaffers tape to secure mounts and cables. Use a safety cable to protect your camera in the event it topples.
