How to Get Less Orange in Photos on a Nikon Cool Pix P90

In the days of film photography, photographers either had to buy specific film for the light they were shooting under or attach adjustment filters to their lenses to correct the light. Now when you get pictures with too much orange out of your digital Nikon camera, adjusting the camera's white balance may fix the problem. Sensors in digital cameras are electronic devices and may record color differently when compared to other cameras.

Instructions

  1. Adjust Your Colors

    • 1

Turn your Nikon camera on, press and hold the "W/B" button and change the setting to "Custom." Turn the exposure mode dial to the setting you want to shoot in.

    • 2

Position a white card in front of the camera. Hold the camera to your eye, press the shutter release button half way down to engage the camera's focusing and metering mode. Press the shutter release button to take the picture.

    • 3

Press the "Menu" button on the back of the camera and select "Set White Balance" from the menu choices. In the rear LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen will be the image of the white card you just photographed. Press the "Set" button to program the camera to recognize this image as your white balance setting. In doing this you have programmed the sensor to see white under the lighting conditions you are shooting in. Remember to change the white balance setting when you change locations or if the light changes.
