How to Recover Deleted Photos From a PowerShot A540

Digital technology and its application in photography has change the way pictures are taken, stored and edited. Now with digital cameras we can review almost immediately the pictures we just shot. Cameras like the Canon PowerShot A540 display the pictures we take on a LCD screen on the back of the camera. After reviewing the pictures we can delete them or keep them. If you accidentally delete a picture, you can recover them using software.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop using your PowerShot A540 as soon as you realize you have deleted the picture. While you can no longer view the picture, the digital file is still on the memory card and will remain there until the physical space is used to save a new picture.

    • 2

Turn your home computer on, connect to the Internet and download a recovery program such as PC Inspector Smart Recovery, PixFix or Camera Salvage. Once the software has been downloaded, launch the program.

    • 3

Insert the memory card into your computer's card reader or an external reader connected to your computer. Wait a moment for your computer to acknowledge the new memory card.

    • 4

Click "Start/Scan" in the recovery software program window and select the icon that represents the memory card. The software will now scan the memory card, looking for deleted pictures and will display them in new window that will open up when the scan is completed.

    • 5

Select the deleted file and save the file to your computer's hard drive. Download the rest of the pictures from the memory card the way you normally would.

    • 6

Remove the card from the reader and you are ready to continue shooting additional pictures.
