How to Mount Photo Prints to Backboards

Photo prints, especially larger prints, should be mounted to backboards before being placed into a frame. Mounting your photos prevents them from rippling when exposed to high humidity levels in hot weather. Mounting the prints also protects them from rips and tears. Once mounted, store the photos in boxes. Use a spray adhesive to mount your photos to backboards.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the backboards and spray adhesive from a local craft or photo retailer. The backboard should be the same size or slightly larger than the photo.

    • 2

Prepare your photo for mounting by trimming any excess areas. If you image has a white border, you may want to trim this off using a utility knife and a cutting board.

    • 3

Place the photo face down on newspaper and a sheet of clean paper to protect the front of the image. Use newspaper to protect the table or desk you are using from any over-spray of the adhesive.

    • 4

Apply an even amount of spray to the back of the photo and be sure to cover all edges. Review the instructions on the adhesive to determine if you must wait a required number of minutes before applying the photo to the board.

    • 5

Place the photo on the center of the board. Place a clean, dry towel in front of the photo and apply pressure using a block of wood or roller.
