DIY Product Photography PVC

Product photography is one way that studio and semi professional photographers can supplement their income from. Many small and medium sized companies may have needs for product photography, but don't have the budget of national corporations. This a niche market that exists in most cities that an enterprising photographer can capture. Rather than setting up your main studio for infrequent product shots you can create a mini studio using PVC piping, with poster board and wax paper.

Things You'll Need

8 - Three way corner PVC connectors
Length of PVC piping long enough to cut 12 equal lengths from
White poster board
Wax paper

Instructions

  Construct a cube shape using the three way PVC connectors at each corner and inserting the PVC piping into the connector. Do this until you have created a cube shaped frame.

  Place the cube shaped frame on table top, or floor depending on the size of the cube. Attach the white poster board to the top cross-section at the back of the cube. Use duct or gaffers tape to affix the board to the PVC pipe. Attach the front edge of the poster to board to bottom front cross section of the PVC cube. Allow the poster board to drop into place creating a "seamless" back ground for your products to sit upon.

  The cover the two sides and top of the frame with wax paper that will act as a diffuser for the lights you position to illuminate the product. You can also use a white fabric in place of the paper.

  Place the product on the poster board base, position three lights one on each side and one at the top. Attach your camera to a trip and set the white balance to match the type of lights you are using, and you are ready to start shooting.
