Things You'll Need
Instructions
Prepare a resume and promotional video clip of the work you have done in the past. Think of it as a video resume. Use only your best work, and have multiple copies of it that you can send to potential employers.
Search expired or filled job listings. Send your resume and promotional video clip to them with a cover letter indicating you know the job is filled but that you would like them to keep your information on file for future openings. Follow up with each of these companies in three months, six months and at the one-year mark from when you sent them your work.
Network with colleagues or other individuals who are in the same field. Join professional organizations which have video camera operators and their supervisors. Attend meetings and functions, and make it a goal to leave with two business cards of individuals you meet. Send these individuals your resume and promotional video with a letter letting them know you are interested and looking for work as a camera operator, and ask if they know of any companies that may have openings.
Look for short-term "fill-in" positions or non-paid internships where you can get your foot in the door and show the company the type of work you are capable of producing. Continue to do these steps until you are successful.
