How to Capture the Moon With a Sony DSC H1

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1 is a compact digital camera built around a 5.0 megapixel CCD (Charge Coupled Device) sensor. The camera also features a 12x optical zoom lens that has a 35 mm equivalent of 36 to 432 mm focal length. At its maximum telephoto setting, the DSC H1 can be used to photograph the moon. Whenever you are shooting at night or are using the camera at its maximum telephoto setting, a tripod is recommended.

Attach the DSC-H1 to a tripod. Turn the camera on and press the "LCD/Finder" button to engage the LCD screen. You can compose the image through the viewfinder as well. However, it's easier to use the screen when adjusting the tripod.

Rotate the exposure mode dial on the top right of the camera to the "M" to set manual exposure mode. Press the "Menu." TToggle through the menu's until you reach "ISO" which is the camera's light sensitivity. Change the value in this field to "200." This is typically a setting for daylight photography, but because your exposure will be long you want a ISO setting that minimizes the amount of noise in your pictures.

Press the "W/T" button on the "T" side until the moon fills the screen. This activates the telephoto lens. Press the shutter release halfway down to engage the auto focus and metering programs. Observe the light meter reading on the LCD screen and adjust the shutter speed and aperture until you reach the desired exposure.
