Instructions
Try to determine the nature of the problem by examining the camera. Is the camera not focusing properly? Will it not turn on? Will it not take pictures? Or is the optical zoom lens not extending?
Turn the camera upside down and remove the batteries from the battery compartment. Clean the contacts inside the battery compartment and on the batteries themselves. Digital cameras require consistent and stable sources of power. If the contacts are dirty, it can prevent a good connection.
Inspect the lens and look for any dirt or debris that may have become lodged between the lens sections. Grains of sand or other small debris can sometimes get stuck and prevent the lens from fully extending. Use a small needle or pin to remove the sand or debris from between the lens barrels.
Check the status of the memory card and replace with a new one if full. Some digital cameras will not operate at all if there is no card in the camera or if the card in the camera is full.
