How to Crop a Body Out of a Picture

Cropping photos can easily turn less-than-desirable images into pictures you are proud to share. Nothing ruins a photo quite like a bad angle that presents an unflattering image. Sometimes the angle is fine but a head-shot portrait would work better. A little computer cropping offers a quick fix that is relatively easy to accomplish. If the photos are from a digital camera, they should be easy to access on a computer, but if they are printed photos or developed from film, they will need to be scanned in order to adjust the images.

Instructions

    • 1

Scan pictures to the computer if they are not already digital images. Otherwise, import the photos to the computer from the digital camera, or other source, by attaching the device to the computer with its USB cable. Import and save the images into a place where you can easily find them again (this is often a default location on your computer).

Select the photos that you need to crop and determine what should be cropped out of each photo. There are several approaches to making these decisions, such as cropping the photo to enlarge the portrait for framing, or cropping out unflattering parts of the photo for framing, sharing or scrapbooking.

    • 3

Open the folder where the photos are and find one you wish to crop. Right-click the photo and choose "edit" from the options. This will bring the photo to an editing program, usually a default editing program such as Microsoft Paint. If "edit" is not an option, choose "Open With..." and select Paint or an alternative photo editing program such as Adobe Photoshop from the list.

    • 4

Click on the cropping tool, usually in a top menu of the program. To crop the photo you will use your computer's mouse. Click and hold the left button down in one corner of the photo, then drag the mouse to the opposite (diagonal) corner of the photo. Keep the cropped section (a square or rectangle shape) encompassing only the portion of the photo you wish to keep; the portion of the photo outside that cropped section will be left out of the saved photo.

    • 5

Choose "crop" from the top menu options after you have formed the square around the desired portion of the picture. On some programs, after you form the desired square around the section to be cropped you must click "Crop" at the top of the program, which completes the cropping process. Other programs simply require you to select a cropping tool and when the image is encased in the square the rest is cropped out automatically.

Select "Save as..." from the File menu and save the cropped photo. Change the file name so it does not copy over the original photo.
