DIY Foam Board Photography

Foam board or foam core photo mounting is a great way to preserve your photographs and add a professional touch to your photography. Mounting images on foam board will make your images stand out more and allow you to hang images without damaging the photo. Mounting an image to foam board is not a hard process, but it does require careful execution to prevent bubbles, creases or any other damage to your image.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the back of your photo with the spray adhesive. It may be helpful to place the image on a piece of crumpled paper to allow easier handling when you are done spraying.

    • 2

Spray the area of foam board you plan to mount the photo on.

    • 3

Gently lay one corner of the image on the foam board and gradually lay the rest of the image onto the board. Be careful when mounting the image to prevent bubbles from forming under the image. If a bubble does form, then use a wide rounded surface to smooth out the bubble. Leave at least a 1/4-inch of space surrounding the photo.

Cut the mounted image away from the rest of the foam board once the adhesive has dried. You may want to use a straight edge for cutting the foam board. Use a new sharp knife to cut away a small portion of the edges of the image to ensure that no foam board shows after you finish cutting.
