Instructions
Decide on a date and location for your photography event. Once the location has been determined, contact the venue to see if there are any restrictions on who can be included as a sponsor for you event. While it is unlikely there will be any restrictions, it is best to confirm this first.
Compile a list of potential sponsor companies. Camera and equipment manufacturers are obvious choices. Once those are compiled, think of companies that may appeal to the type of event you are hosting. For example, if you are hosting a nature photography retreat, you may want to invite companies that manufacture hiking footwear or camping gear. Food companies that produce protein or cereal bars may also be interested as photographers will often carry these food products with them.
Prepare a marketing letter to send to the companies you have identified as potential sponsors. The letter should spell out the opportunity, the number of people who will be in attendance and how you think their company could be successful as a sponsor. Advise them of the date and location and what level of sponsorship opportunities exist for them.
Research the company online and obtain the email address of the company president or person in charge of marketing and promotions. Send this person an email with your solicitation letter, and advise them you will be following up with a phone call in two to three days.
Call the company within the time frame you indicated and ask for them to be a sponsor for your photography event. Answer any questions they may have and be sure to have additional information about your event to send to them should they ask.
