Clothing and Accessories
While clothes do not need to match exactly, color and pattern coordination is a must. Mix patterns with solids. For example, if a brother is wearing a blue and yellow striped shirt, one sister could wear a solid yellow dress and the other could wear a solid blue one. Select colors that coordinate with the season as well, such as pastel colors for spring pictures. Shoes should be comfortable. Dressy tennis shoes work well for boys, while girls can wear round-toed flats. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum.
Locations
Outdoor locations work best. Places that have a variety of backgrounds make for interesting shots. If it is spring time, choose locations with colorful flowers, like gardens or conservatories. In the summer, open fields give photographs a golden glow during sunset and sunrise hours. Fall photographs in the woods can feature a brother and sisters playing in orange, red and brown leaves. In wintertime, take children to a hill for sledding to take playful, snowy pictures.
Posing
Posing siblings the wrong way can make them look awkward or forced. One way to avoid this is to let them do the posing. Ask the sisters and brother how they would like to sit or stand for their pictures. You may get interesting, but usable results. Also, by asking them for their input, you are gaining their trust, which makes them more willing to pose the way you want them to. Try poses where the brother is sitting in between his sisters. For a more fun shot, have his sisters kiss his cheeks.
Natural Shots
Natural shots capture the genuine bond between a brother and sisters. Allow them to run around and play with each other, to create unique photographs. Give them a special prop, like a kite or a new toy and see what they do with it. Step into the background to get the most authentic photos.
