Babies
When photographing baby brothers, coordinate their outfits. Choose matching onesies or t-shirts. Blue is the traditional color for baby boys but add green, yellow or brown for a pop of color. Cute hats are perfect for covering newborns' heads. Go to a location where the family feels comfortable. In-home photography sessions create a calm atmosphere for authentic photographs. Poses should be natural-looking. Place newborn babies on their bellies while they are sleeping to create an innocent shot. If the babies can sit up, pose the brothers back to back. If they are crawling, capture them in action.
Young Children
Young children generally have little tolerance for long, drawn out photo sessions. Parks are a perfect location, as they provide gorgeous scenery, as well as a playground for children who are tired of formal poses. Take the formal shots first, as children burn out quickly. Pose brothers holding hands and sitting side-by-side. In less formal shots, let the boys run around and be themselves. On the playground, take pictures of them sliding down slides, swinging and climbing. They should dress in comfortable clothes. Try to coordinate outfits but not match them exactly. Mix prints and solids in similar colors.
Teenagers
Many teenagers feel embarrassed when getting their pictures taken. Ease these feelings by choosing photography locations that are private. Backyard shots work well, since no one else is on the property. Use props that represent the boys' interests, like guitars or footballs. Take photos of them tossing the ball back and forth. Pose the brothers beside one another on stairs, for more formal shots. Have them put their arms around one another. As the session goes on, they will feel more comfortable. Button-down shirts, plaids and jeans are favorites amongst teenage boys. For best results, have the boys wear clothes that show their personality but still coordinate with one another.
Adults
When brothers grow older, they tend to take fewer and fewer photographs together. Take special photos of the times when they do get together. The location may be at a family reunion or holiday gathering. For perfect photos, brothers should wear clothing within a color scheme of a few colors. If one brother wears a solid, the other brother could wear a print that picks up the solid color. The goal of these photos is to show the bond between brothers, so recreate it through poses. Have them sit beside each other and get them to laugh. Give them a few minutes and they will be acting like kids again. Fun, comfortable pictures are the goal.
