How to Save Pictures From an Unformatted Memory Card

The vast majority of cameras on the market today are digital and require SD memory cards. These cards come in many sizes, varying from as low as eight MB all the way up to 32 GB, but the SD Association is working on creating memory cards up to two terabytes. Most of the these cards have a life span of up to 10 years. Not only can you store photographic images on SD cards, but you can also store audio and video files, in addition to other documents.

    • 4

Select your "Start" menu and select "My Computer" or just "Computer" from the sub menu on the left side.

    • 5

Select your SD card under the "Devices and Removeable Storage" section.

    • 6

Select all the images on your card and drag them over to the open folder you created. This transfer can take several minutes depending on how many images you are moving. Wait until all the images have been moved before continuing.

    • 7

Close the "My Computer" menu and remove the SD card from your computer. At this point you can format your memory card.
