How to Take the Lens Off a Yashica

Yashica is a Japanese camera and electronics company that has been manufacturing cameras since the 1950s. Its cameras, which include film and digital models, are known for producing clean quality photographs. The Yashica Electro 35 is one of the most common classic Yashica cameras and is the main reference camera for Yashica-related repairs, including removing the lens. Lens removal requires delicate jeweler's tools, such as a jeweler's screwdriver and a slotted spanner wrench, to remove the small rings and screws around the lens.

Things You'll Need

  • Slotted spanner wrench
  • Synthetic grease
  • Soft cloth
  • Needle-nosed tweezers
  • Jeweler's screwdriver
  • Table lamp

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your camera with the lens facing up. Turn on your table lamp for extra light.

    • 2

Remove the trim ring -- the metal ring around the edge of the lens -- with the slotted spanner wrench. If the trim ring won't remove easily, run a pea-size amount of synthetic grease over it with your finger. Once you've removed the trim ring, wipe away the grease with your soft cloth.

    • 3

Unscrew the front group -- the metal and rubber piece between your trim ring and your lens -- with your fingers and set aside. The front group will remove as a unit.

    • 4

Locate the three tiny screws in the black ring around your lens. Use your jeweler's screwdriver to loosen these screws and remove the front of the lens barrel.

    • 5

Remove the scalloped ring around the shutter with your tweezers. The remaining portion of the lens barrel will still be attached to the camera through the circuit wires. Move it to the side gently so you don't disturb the wires. You have now completely removed your lens and exposed the shutter.
