Clothing
Since the subject is a teenager, clothing is sure to be one of their major concerns of the shoot. The subject will need to wear something that represents himself while creating a foundation around a classic style that will look good for years to come. Solid color should also be promoted, since wild colors will stray the eye from the subject's face. Location should be taken into account when choosing clothing and clothing colors, as well.
Location
While you'll find abundant locations available for senior portraits, some of the most intriguing locations include parks, bridges, grassy areas with trees, playgrounds, and anywhere else that has an interesting scene. The subject should wear clothing that will not become lost in the background. A solid colored shirt that complements the surroundings will keep the photo's focus on the subject.
Poses
Two of the most popular senior portrait poses are standing and sitting. For either of these poses, situating the subject at a sideways angle, with her head still facing the camera, will make the subject appear slimmer. If she is sitting, this angle will make her legs and torso look proportionate to her head. For seated poses, position the subject leaning against a prop or leaning forward, propping her elbow on her knees. For standing poses, lean the subject against a tree or similar prop.
Props
Some seniors will opt to bring props to the photo shoot in order to display more about themselves through their photos. Talk with your subject beforehand to see if the location will need to be altered for his props. Some props that will make personal additions to any senior portrait include favorite books, a pet, a car, or any type of prop that has to do with a sport, hobby, or musical instrument.
