Affection
Photographing siblings as they are hugging or are in the middle of any other type of affectionate gesture will relate to the viewer the closeness of their relationship. This type of photograph can be taken anywhere, such as in the snow, in front of a Christmas tree or fireplace, at the dining room table, or while they are opening presents. Capturing the siblings while they are smiling will make the photograph look even more authentic.
Fireplace
The fireplace is one of the best places for a seated Christmas portrait. Seat the children in front of the fireplace. Have them lean forward, placing their elbows on their knees. They can also sit upright at the fireplace. With this position, though, the photograph may run the risk of looking awkward. The photograph can be taken at a sideways angle, to the left or right, so that the children's legs and torsos will look proportional.
Christmas Tree
One of the most popular Christmas portrait settings is in front of a Christmas tree. Situate the children in front of a Christmas tree. Clothe the children in a way that is both suitable for the photo and will not clash with the Christmas decorations. If the children have a young sibling, have one child hold the young sibling for the photograph. It may also be both entertaining for the children and work well for the photo if the children hold a prop such as presents, cookies, or anything else Christmas related.
Candid Photos
Candid photographs of children can often be some of the most entertaining. Take a picture of them opening presents or playing with their new toys. Another idea is to photograph them sledding down a hill or working together to build a snowman. Since kids will not have to wait around for pictures to be taken, candid photos will better show the children's true emotions.
