How to Mount Pictures on Foam Core

If your main goal is to emphasize a picture and not the frame holding it, consider mounting it on foam core. This minimalistic approach presents the picture rather than the object holding it. There are many ways to mount a picture on foam core, but using spray adhesive is by far the best. Mounting a picture this way gives you a secure and professional looking final product that is sure to grab the viewer's attention.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the foam core board. It should be larger than the picture you are mounting to it. Allow a minimum of 1 inch of extra material on all sides. This will give you some wiggle room when placing the picture.

    • 2

Crumple up some newspaper to provide a raised surface for the picture while applying the spray adhesive.

    • 3

Lay the picture face down on the crumpled newspaper. Hold the spray adhesive can upright and approximately 6 inches away from the picture. Apply a light, uniform coating using a smooth, side-to-side motion. Do not over-saturate the picture with adhesive.

Pick up the image using only the edges of the picture. Flip the picture over and begin mounting the picture to the foam core by placing one corner of the image and carefully rolling it flat onto the foam core.

    • 6

Place the mounted picture on a cutting surface and trim away the excess foam core using a straight edge and a utility knife. The edges of the picture should provide a guide for the final trimming.

Put on the cotton gloves and smooth out the picture. Pay close attention to the edges ensuring they are properly adhered to the foam core board
