The Ring
One pose that should be included in an engagement photo shoot is a pose that emphasizes the engagement ring. One approach is to use a shallow depth of field and have the couple hold hands and outstretch their arms during a kiss. Focus only on the ring; the couple remain slightly out of focus. The picture will show off the ring and provide a profile of the couple.
The Kiss
A standard in engagement photography is for the newly engaged couple to share a kiss. How to shoot it or light it depends on the mood the photographer is creating. A back-lit pose will create a nice silhouette of the couple. A photo taken just before sunset will give the picture a warm glow.
Embrace
Another standard is a standing picture of the couple embracing. Generally place the male behind the female and have him wrap his arms around her shoulders. The female should hold one of his arms with her left hand so the engagement ring is visible. The picture can be shot tight, just showing the head and shoulders of the couple, or it can be shot as a wide vertical picture, showing the couple from head to toe.
Sitting
Whether it is on a blanket at the beach, a park bench or in an armchair, the sitting pose is another standard. Position the couple so the female is resting slightly against the male to create a scene of closeness and relaxation.
