Clothing
Clothing may be one of the most important concerns subjects will have with their photo shoot. Remind high school seniors that they should choose a type of clothing with a classic style that will not look outdated when they look back on their photos in the future. Solid color clothing will look best, since it will do the least to distract from the portrait. Coordinate the clothing choices with the locations and pose positions selected.
Location
There are countless locations that can be used for these photo shoots. Some of the most interesting locations include bridges, playgrounds, parks or almost anywhere else that has lush greenery. If the background contains multiple colors, you may want to advise your subject to wear clothing that does not contain any type of colored prints. Otherwise, the photo will lack focus, and the subject will become lost in the background.
Poses
Popular poses for senior portraits include standing and sitting. Whichever the case, positioning the subject at an angle, while their head is still pointed toward the camera, will give the illusion of a slimmer body. If they are sitting, have them either leaning forward or against something. If they are standing, have them lean against a tree or other prop. Portraits can also be taken with the subject lying down. Have the high school senior lie on his side and use his elbow to prop his head up.
Props
The subject may want to bring props of her own for the photo shoot. You may need to alter the location to accommodate these props. Props such as books, their car, their pet or something that has to do with a hobby of theirs or the sport or musical instrument they play can add points of interest to photos.
