How to Put Photos That Are on a CD Onto a Computer

Transferring photos from a CD onto a computer is a simple action. You just use a basic drag-and-drop method with your mouse. Image files on a CD function as any other data files, so you can transfer them just as you would a normal text document. Be sure your computer has enough storage space for making the transfer before you begin the transfer process.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a new folder on your computer labeled with the date or topic of the images you will be transferring from the disc.

    • 2

Insert the CD into the computer. Allow the computer to recognize the CD.

    • 3

Access the disc just inserted into your computer using one of several methods. Depending on your operating system, a dialogue box acknowledging your image CD may appear, asking you what action you wish to take. Click on an access data file, not a view images option. If the box does not appear, simply access your operating system's control panel and look for the name of the CD to appear beneath the additional hard drives icons on your computer. If working on a Mac OS, simply look on the desktop or open the Finder window and look for the CD name.

    • 4

Select the CD with your images by double clicking the CD icon. This should open the CD folder so you can view the image files or folders containing your images.

    • 5

Double-click on the destination folder created in Step 1 for your images. You should see a blank folder window ready to transfer your new photos.

    • 6

Highlight all the image file names or folders on the CD. You can highlight them using a mouse. Select the first file and hold down the "Shift" button while selecting the last file. This will highlight all the files in this folder.

    • 7

Press the mouse over the highlighted image files or folders and drag them to the open destination folder for your images. This step may take a few minutes to transfer if the files are large or your computer has a slow processing speed. Your computer will need at least 650 MB of free space, as this is the normal data storage capacity of a CD.

Check in the destination folder to see that all your images have transferred properly before you eject the CD.
