How to Make a Picture Album

Pictures are keepsakes that can be passed from generation to generation. Remembering who's who in a group shot, or the name of the restaurant your family visited on vacation six years ago can be tough as the years go by.

With a few simple supplies, some time and a desire to pass down all those treasured memories to future generations, you can make a photo album that is cherished for years to come.

Things You'll Need

  • Photo album with space for writing captions
  • Pen or felt-tip marker

Instructions

    • 1
Choosing the right photo album is key to preserving your family memories.

Find an album that not only has room for your photos and mementos, but also space where you can write captions. An album of archival quality or made with acid-free paper is preferred. These can be found at most craft stores.

Keeping your photos in order will help others understand your album.

Put your photos in order. Many people prefer to keep their photos in chronological order, but you may choose to group them by special events or places. Lay all photos out in the order you want them to appear in your album.

    • 3
Securing your photos helps keep them from falling out and getting lost.

Place photos in the album. Some albums have slide-in plastic windows, while others have photo corners that attach with glue. Whichever way you attach your photos, be sure they're held in the book securely.

If you can't identify someone in a photo, ask others for help.

Identify the people, places, things and dates in the photos. Begin by identifying the event or place where the photo was taken and, if known, the date. Follow this with the people in the photo, including first and last names, and ages, if known. Include any other details --- such as the activity pictured --- that is relevant to the photo.

Write all the information about a photo in clear handwriting.

Carefully write all photo information into the album with your pen or marker. Be sure to write the information in a location close to the picture so there is no confusion about which photo the caption describes when looking through the album at a later date.
